The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Displeasure Over Sizing Changes

Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

This online marketplace has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification.

Online Platforms Response

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with similar services.

They have suggested members to check their listings and manually change the size when needed, which has left users frustrated.

Size Classification Updates

Earlier, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.

Required Changes

Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she explained.

Service Background

The service features exceeding 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
